Briva - Plazazu
Released: June 30
Plazazu is an ultimately a rather short but incredibly delightful little EP brought to us by Ingrown Records. It features only four tracks total and makes for a peculiar hybrid of ambient and vaporwave influences. You can hear this blend all thoughout the album, but it particularly comes through in the second and fourth tracks, “Ravi” and “Plazazu” respectively. The first of these feels particularly washed out on total with faded beats and a lead loop that feels vaguely familiar, almost like I’ve had to wait on the phone with it for some time before a representative can help me with my issue, except I’m in a pool as well. Our final track has a similar kind of vibe, but more focused and a little less spaced out while still making me think I’m waiting to hear someone ask how they can help me. Though I think I may just ask them to turn the music back on.
The other two tracks, “Étire” and “La Lune” veered into deeply ambient territory on the other hand. No drums or other percussion to be heard, but the same lo-fi quality is still there. The first track is the shorter of the two, but contains such lovely synthwork, a lush and thick pads that fills up the space with its very light accompaniments. It feels forceful yet serene. Conversely, “La Lune” is a swirly and enchanting longform track that resembles floating down a stream in all its peaceful wonderment. Gentle and soothing for the most part with moments of slight dissonance for flavor. The structure of the album is a simple alternation between these two moods, giving us all the relaxation of a beachfront resort with none of the hustle or bustle to be found.
