everidian - you know Green is my favorite color
Released: October 25
This album caught my attention before I even listened to it, mainly because green is also my favorite color. But then, when I listened to it, it had my attention in even more of its grasp as it just sounds green. How can something sound green? Well it’s probably one part vibes and one part synesthesia, but I will allow other listeners to determine the actual ratio for themselves. But suffice to say, it feels quite lush all around with smooth synth lines, tight and slightly quirky beats, and a general air of vibrancy combined with a slight dustiness in tone.
Cheekily enough, every track on the album is named after a particular shade of green. “Jade,” “cerulean,” “juniper…” All cleverly named in a way that attempts to describe the vibe of each track as best a single word related to a color can. “Cerulean” certainly stands out as one of my favorites, with its swirling key tones and noisy little atmospherics drifting back and forth in the mix. It has a rather ethereal feel to it, something that I feel matches up well to the blueish undertones of this particular shade. The track that follows feels particularly poignant as well being named “malachite,” a particular mineral that often produces vaguely psychedelic patterns in its polished form. Aside from having a weird jazz-inflected vibe, this is also the only track featuring another artist as flat moon society appears to add an extra layer of psychedelia.
You know Green is my favorite color is a vaguely emotional experience that utilizes one of the most variable colors of the spectrum to communicate its message. It’s one vibrancy, growth, and development with themes that slowly emerge in each track and smear wonderfully together throughout the course of the album.
