Various Artists - 20g

 Released: September 20

20g marks the fourth compilation from ONNO Collective, bringing us another collection of outsider electronic music from around India’s underground scene. And a rather eclectic collection of tracks it is, covering tracks that veer all over the place to include abstract noise ambient to high energy erratic house. It provides quite a snapshot of the variety of music being produced in the electronic scene and includes even a few familiar names to the blog including Ayush Sayalkar and Khuss.

For the more upbeat tracks, Pardafash brings us a techno beat driven track with odd atmospherics around it in “Ember” while Sawhorse comes out with a slamming and distorted industrial adjacent track that keeps the beat and the noise up in “The Peaceless Coexistence of Multiple Truths.” There’s also some jus flat our odd and unclassifiable kind of stuff like Disco Puppet’s “Fuck Your God” which is incredibly minimalistic with an unwieldy and off-kilter structure. It’s a very unusual vibe and is rather intriguing to listen to, especially with it placement in the compilation.

For some of the more ambient tracks, “message to an angel” by breaking dips us deep into petite and peculiar tones that are surrounded by pillowy beds of soft pads while the following track “Noisy Neighbor” sends us into downtempo breaks territory with a perfect hint of that dark reverb on top of it and a little bit of creative sampling coming in right around the end. The compilation also ends wonderfully with the heartfelt ambient ballad “miss you so” from Ayush Sayalkar’s newest effort. It’s overall just a beautifully rendered collection of tracks with a such an excellent range of moods and vibes.
