Ayush Sayalkar - till I see you

 Released: May 8

This debut musical release from Mumbai-based filmmaker is a beautiful, if not just a bit short, three-piece ambient experience that I found to be quite moving and beautiful. There first two tracks are quite short, but the sound design at work is quite lovely. Both seem to be mainly comprised of some some soft strings and winds, with a lot of variation and movement. In the first track, “where it all ends,” it definitely keeps itself out of the realm of drone works, though some of the field recordings give a somewhat stoic atmosphere particularly around the very end. But that static atmosphere leads wonderfully into the second track “heaven surrounds us.” This second track moves away from some of the more natural sounds and veers into abstract synth territory, but keeps that same penchant for variation.

The final track, “if you could stay,” is the longest of the tracks and takes full advantage of this to throw us into a lush and full soundscape that amalgamates the two previous tracks into something that feels heartfelt and full. It’s has the winds, the strings, and even some light piano in there as well. There’s also the addition of traditional Indian instruments giving us that twangs and light bits of percussion at the ends. It is altogether a wonderful little EP, one that feels as though it is the soundtrack for a so-far unreleased short film. It certainly contains all the ingredients for something of this nature, as it already feels like it is telling the story without words or pictures.
