Vincent Dallas - Uitbundig En Ingetogen Op Zondag

Released: February 21

This recent album from Vincent Dallas has a quirky feature about it that makes it feel both scathing and aggressive while also somehow conveying a sense of ease underneath all of the harsh electronics (which may be partially due to the idyllic looking cover art). Sonically, it feels much like an assault in two parts. In the first half there’s a massive amount of squelching and screaming that is counterweighted by a persistent low hum in between it all. A cool feature of the squelching is that Vincent seems to have squeezed some rather interesting tones of of it, with some coming across as alarm-like. The high density buzz of high voltage keeps appearing throughout the chaotic first half as tones wind, oscillate, and tear through your otherwise rather blissful day.

The second half takes us into more traditional wall territory but the screeching tones still are persistent throughout the runtime. But here they take backseat to the more ever-present wall feeling. It feels like this is the part where we are enjoying a windy day in the park with an overly sensitive microphone that is being obliterated by the wind for much of the track as you can hear the dull and overcompressed roar of a condenser about to giver out. But this is where I feel the weird sense of calm under it all. It’s much like everything is chaotic and abruptly spiraling around the listener, but it’s still a beautiful and bright sunny day outside. It’s a rather weird piece of sound in this way. I’m still not sure what to make of it. But I do enjoy it.
