Fields of Few - Escape The Mind

Released: November 29

Stemming from a rather interesting concept, Fields of Few’s newest album explores the ideas of consciousness and human experience through the lens of a more danceable vibe than some of his previous works. It really gives me the vibes of something like a callback to the earlier days of psytrance but with a tempo and intensity more reminiscent of a chilled out deep house vibe. But genre conventions aside, it handily captures the essence of the psychedelic without dive so far in as to be completely esoteric.

As a bit of a shorter album with eight tracks, Escape the Mind  wastes no time jumping into its explorations. As the introductory track ends on notes of spanning twinkly tones, the tightly wound and finely pressed drums come in on “A Million Sparkles” as more twinkling tones dance around them. And really this is the theme of most of the album. It centers itself on tightly woven rhythms that support twinkly arpeggios played by blippy synths with names that conjure up kaleidoscopic imaginings of colorful and profound. As I said previously, it feels very much like it is in the vein of early psytrance acts such as Astral Projection and Hallucinogen, but without the overbearing intensity and more relaxed vibe that would invite you to play around and enjoy yourself rather than face the full intensity head on.
