Hoshiko Yamane & Makoto Sakamoto - Aus einer getrennten Welt
Released: September 23
Aus einer getrennten Welt is a two piece album consisting of a pair of long-form compositions that combine elements of classical cinematic music with a more odd and experimental tone. This duo consists of two talented artists with Makoto Sakamoto being the one behind all of the synthetic tones and atmospheres and Hoshiko Yamane (formerly of the band Tangerine Dream) providing the more classical elements with her violin. The product of this combination is a deeply immersive and atmospheric album that feels much larger than it truly is.
Truly, with the duo being little more than a single violin, a synthesizer, and creative use of a mixer, it feels surprisingly full and lush. This is especially true as the first of these long pieces grows and evolves in its complexity to become a full-fledged cinematic undertaking, going from a single airy tone to what sounds like a full arrangement that would make a great accompaniment to a dramatic scene of a frostbitten nature.
Like the first track, the second (“Herumtastend”) brings same theatrical undercurrents to it’s presentation. Large and airy synths ring out and provided a sort of airy background as the violins plays along for much it adding rousing trills and even some low droning tones later on. As the track comes closer to the end, percussive elements slowly creep their way in, starting with deep bass murmurs and thuds buried deep in the background with a very subtle clattering going along with it. It takes the composition from something simply alludes to a dramatic scene and imparts a sincere elements of suspense into it as the track reaches its end. I particularly enjoyed the way in which these two compositions were able to conjure up so many images in my mind, most of which seemed icy and desolate but filled with all the potential for conflict and strife.
