Violent Shogun - Humble Submission To Wisdom
Released: August 30
Humble Submission To Wisdom is an often subtle and dark trek through clanking textures and slowly simmering feedback that winds its way through the listeners ears over the course of just over thirty minutes. It's a varied collection of noises that come from varied sources including cassettes and microcassettes, a collection of random junk, and even a Prophet 5. These disparate elements are woven together into a clunky but cohesive tapestry of sound that moves slowly and subtly into different scenes. There is no clear division between the scenes, making it feel seamless and fluid. In the second half of the experience, there is this moment in which a high-pitched squeal takes over the stage for about half a minute or so. Then it simply subsides quickly back into the ether of slowly simmering haze and fog.
The first half features less intense textures throughout, except for a long moment near the end in which the grumbling static hits a feverish level. It never hits the level of aggression that other parts do, but it comes in waves that rise and suddenly suck back into the soft atmosphere surrounding it. It all makes for a rather tangled and intricate experience. Its various layers interact in odd ways, making a weird tapestry of noises and scrapes that morphs through numerous iterations and themes. It's dark, hazy, and a slightly nerve-wracking but highly intriguing the whole time.
