Autumna - forget me not - vergeet mij niet

 Released: September 13

Consisting of five roughly equal in length pieces,  forget me not feels like a fog-covered golden hour recollection of past memories. It’s like waking up in the morning and being struck with peaceful recall as you lay in an a sunbeam that is now partially covering your bed. This theme is established beautifully in the opening track as we are presented with that foggy and amorphous sound of fuzzy pads accompanied by the chirping of birds and indistinct conversation in the next room. It gives an aura of small pieces of dust floating in a yellow sunbeam with audible connotation of the warmth ton one’s skin. It’s quite the feeling and it is managed to be sustained throughout the entire album in one manner or another.

“The flowers know” largely sticks to the same scene though it adds a certain direction to it compared to the first track as the pads play out somewhat wistful harmony, keeping the indistinct conversation going. On a side note, this is an element of Autmna’s work which I have always appreciated as it makes for an engaging juxtaposition. It makes the world they construct feel that much more alive and uncertain, like we’ve tripped into an unspecified time and place that exists outside of normal the normal world yet retains the same elements.

I think my favorite piece here is the fourth one, “polaroid archive,” The backdrop of this track is just so perfect with the softest of pads that shimmer as a gentle crackling envelops the foreground, sounding much like an archaic projector that is sharing this archive for all to see. It’s quite an immaculate vibe for me and I think it really encapsulates what this album is all about - the soft echo of old memories on a slowly aging mind.
