wræżlivøść - wræżlivøść

Released: September 27

I think the best way to describe this debut album from wræżlivøść is that it’s sort of a slow motion roller coaster ride. Even though it’s only a scant twenty minutes over three tracks, it manages to go in so many directions in that short time. Soft and elegant piano lines wander through the otherwise empty space only to be suddenly and almost violently replaced by harsh electronic glitches and tones. These jarring moments create a captivating back and forth between the extremes of this album. I thoroughly enjoyed the derelict feel of it as it feels overall relaxed and emotive but that relaxed feel is regularly undermined by the noisy madness. Personally, I feel as though this is a potential soundtrack for my brain on a normal day.

The twenty minutes runtime is broken up among three tracks with the middle one acting  as a bridge between the first and the last. Even with this structure, there’s a strange kind of continuity between the first and last track as both open up with a noisy introduction but gradually and gently calm down, settling into something closer to ambiance. The final track feels extremely drawn out in this dynamic, starting out aggressively and becoming a slowly fading drone by the mid-point. But even with its aggressive start, it incorporates these interesting glitched out piano riffs into its initial madness. The way in which they are cut up and the multi-step effects layered on top make it a treat to here, at least a very disorienting and inventive one.
