Trem 77 - Eyelid Movie EP
Released: October 11
Eyelid Movie EP is a slowly winding EP that wants to make something of a statement. In a time in which we are surrounded by screens that are vying for our attention (like the one you’re looking at right now), there is something forgotten about the enjoyment of simply allowing your mid to wander organically as it brings up the random thoughts and images of your mind. These images that seem to be projected onto the inside of your closed eyelids, hence the name. I found it to be rather successful in this message over the course of roughly twenty-five minutes.
Each track possesses a psychedelic but also slightly washed out quality, with some being a bit sparser and others being more dense in their sonic content. The opening track “Whirl to Whorl” feels like a somewhat spiritual swirling sound that wanders about as an accompanying sound of something like an imagined, or even hallucinated, helicopter spins up and down irregularly. There’s a lot oof motifs like this, especially as we get to the midpoint of the EP in which we get some percussion and guitars that bring in the more rock oriented vibes like on “Dream In.” It remains heavily influenced by psychedelia and keeps that washed out tone over all. But this build up in the middle slowly fades away across the next couple of tracks until the final “Luminous Ebb.” The finale consists of just a single hazy pad that comes in and out like gentle waves, lapping up on the shore of the listener’s mind and then retreating again with the same steady speed. It’s an immensely relaxing experience, well suited for the mind in free association mode.
