Synth for Pets - Glimpses of a Magical Path

 Released: September 25

Glimpses of a Magical Path is one of those albums that really takes its time to lead you along. It’a slow, sauntering, and almost lackadaisical in its approach as we float along the through the runtime. At a modest ten tracks, each one is able and effective in its goal of inducting a sense of serene delight. But even with all of its intention on inducing these feelings, there are these small fleeting gently disjointed moments tat seems to punctuate the otherwise magical vibes. Right around the end of “Walking around in the valley,” there is this short moment where the seemingly ever-present and slowly rotating pads suddenly break slightly and quickly dissipate like the light of a firefly. It feels rather poignant to me.

But it isn’t just a bit of dreamy synth, we also get some wonderful bits of woodland ambience on “The last basket for collecting memories.” Opening with an arhythmic rudimentary bell, the synths creep in slowly and building gently, never really overtaking the ambience but giving it a bed to rest on. It feels very reminiscent of a sunrise over a field of wild grass and seeing the yellow sun reflect off of the dew. Just a rather lovely moment.

If I were to be so bold, this album sounds rather whimsical. Almost as if this were some kind of dungeon synth, but for people who prefer rainbows and kittens over mages and ogres. It doesn’t hit you in the face with such a theme though. Instead it just gently lays it on you, quite softly. This is honestly great music to pet a kitten or feed birds in the park to.
