The Fringes - On the Radar - September 4

Camp of Wolves - Green Timbers

Release Date: September 10

This forthcoming release from the folks at Waxing Crescent Records is both beautiful and eerie at the same time. The melodies you'll find here are minimal but still more than capable of adding to an atmosphere that is subtly haunting. Long, drawn-out pads create a sense of cautious wonder, almost as if you are wandering through the timbers that the album is named after. While it is not tense in a way that brings to mind a pursuit, it does gives the sense that you are not alone as you wander. No pre-order is currently available, but you can follow Waxing Crescent Records to be alerted when it is available on digital and cassette.

Dogs versus Shadows - Volte Face

Release Date: September 10

Tapping deep into the darker side of things, Nottingham-based ambient noise artist Dogs versus Shadows (Lee Pylon) brings us another masterful four-part suite on Subexotic Records. The sounds contained here a reminiscent of horror movie fare as Pylon intergrates a variety of parts to include sweeping brass, twisted orchestral strings, and the bleak ambient noisescapes that he has become known for. Currently available for pre-order with full listening now and bonus material available on the official release.

Lexagon - Feminine Care

Release Date: September 10

Exploring ideas of femininity and gender conformity, this upcoming release from Ratskin Records is an evocative and strange vocal-centered album. The vocals are extremely haunting as they are sung in a low tone with cadences that resemble incantations more than they do melodies, at least it seems that way from the currently available pre-order track. With sparse percussion and a spooky jazz feel, this is likely to be quite a heavy expedition into its subject matter. Currently available for pre-order with one track available for listening.

Smylex Attack/Ardor - Aether/Flux

Release Date: September 10

An upcoming split from the Strategic Tape Reserve, this album is a collaborative effort between two pairs of artists that takes the listener to two very different places. For the first half, Smylex Attack (Mike Haley & Jamie Orlando) takes us to bizarre and inexplicable locations in space where time distorts wildly and the laws of physics have no meaning. Weird and wonky synths that slide wildly in tone while gurgling and glitching without regard for regularity. For the second half, Ardor (Ryan Durfee & Alex Brooks) brings us back to Earth, though in one of the most alien places to us, deep underwater. The sounds of bubbling water slowly give way to airy synths and bizarre noises of ocean life deep below. No pre-order is currently available, but you can follow Strategic Tape Reserve to be alerted when it is available.

Seido Toshiyuki/Tantric Death/White Widow - Adagio For Strings

Release Date: September 1 (digital)/October 1(Tape)

Do not let the name of this album fool you, this upcoming release from Bent Window Records bears like resemblance to the classical piece of the same name. What is in this release is a superb, if not a completely ear-shattering noise collaboration between three artists that includes a former collaborator with Merzbow himself. It is a pure audio horror scape contained in fifteen minutes and ungodly tones. Be prepared. Currently available on digital release with cassettes available for pre-order.

555 Sounds - Live from Dirtmall

Release Date: September 8

This upcoming release on Ingrown Records is difficult to categorize due to the sheer variety of tones, moods, and atmospheres the album touches on. These different moods and atmospheres seem to be touched on and then rarely returned to later on, giving the album a fleeting quality as it meanders from one to the next. What can be said about it is the very light quality every track seems to have, never getting too dark or haunting, preferring instead to give a light juxtaposition of various sounds for the listener to contemplate in a relaxed fashion. Currently available on digital with cassettes available for pre-order.
