The Fringes - On the Radar - October 24

Petridisch - ZONES

Release date: October 31

Built through a somewhat randomized process, the newest upcoming release from Petridisch on Infinite Sync Records is a bizarrely head-spinning experience. Absent any melody or rhythm, this assemblage of five deep drone tracks is oddly meditative while discomforting at the same time. Just from the sole preview track available, it is easy to get a sense of what you will be in for. Airy and spaced-out stabs of reverberated noise echo atop a deep and rumbling bass drone that builds slowly as it approaches a crescendo from which it abruptly ends. It is difficult to visualize a scene in which this plays out, but I gather that's not the point. Rather it will just leave the listener in a weird and difficult-to-describe headspace. Currently available for pre-order on digital and cassette with one track available for listening.

Sulk Rooms - Winter Visit

Release date: October 29

Established ambient and experimental artist Thomas Ragsdale continues to build on his latest project Sulk Rooms with year another release within a month of his first. This latest excursion on Waxing Crescent Records is another mysterious journey through a cold landscape. While his earlier release under this new moniker, First Vows, seemed to set up an ambiance in the deep reaches of the void, Winter Visit has a much more grounded feel to it. It feels as though this is something that could exist in the real and immediately tangible world but is still just on the other side of the concrete. It truly lives up to the name and spirit of this new project. No pre-order is currently available but you can follow Waxing Crescent Records on Bandcamp to be alerted when it is available on digital and cassette.

Maciej Sadowski - I Have Absolutely Nothing to Say, So Listen

Release date: October 29

I Have Absolutely Nothing to Say, So Listen is among the most misleading titles I have seen recently. Truly, this album is quite complex and has more than a little bit to say, although what it says is quite deep and dark. Polish composer and double bassist Maciej Sadowski utilizes a variety of instruments, techniques, and methods for creating dark compositions that are soaked in classical influence including beautiful string, piano, and vocal performances from a wide array of guest musicians. The vocal performances are especially striking as they come as completely unexpected at times and bring the pieces they included in to a whole new level. Especially in the case of the track "Believe in Nothing" which seems to break the mold of the album temporarily and plunges us into an intense spoken-word monologue. All of these elements combine splendidly alongside the ever-present synths the can be heard on almost all tracks. This is an album that I truly look forward to hearing in its entirety. Currently available for pre-order on digital and CD with three tracks available for listening now.

Bit Cloudy - Energy Giant

Release date: October 31

Borrowing heavily from his earlier influences of 90s rave music, London-based artist Bit Cloudy has created an album that seems to span the range of mellow and subdued to energizing and thought-provoking. The pace and energy of each track varies a bit but something that seems to tie all of these tracks together is a unique sub-bass feel that has to be heard on your best subwoofer or high-quality headphones to really be appreciated. One of the best examples of this ear-tickling technique can be heard on the swirling melodic track "Bled Serpent Blues" with its wavering arpeggiated synth and wonky distorted monosynth, all sitting atop deep bass hits that will make your head shake just enough to be enjoyable. While I prefer things to be a bit slower in my music, this album is a nice little jolt of energy for sure. Currently available for pre-order on digital and CD with four tracks available for listening.
