The Fringes - On the Radar - July 11

Willebrant - The Pilgrim

Release Date: July 16

Taking a short break from his Fieldwork series of releases, Australian ambient artist Karl Willebrant's upcoming EP is still full of the wonderful field recording goodness that he is known for. However, the context for this is much different as Karl takes listeners on a journey through the wilderness, almost as if we are hiking alongside as we witness the splendor of the natural world. The sounds here are serene, light, and sometimes difficult to distinguish field recordings from other sounds. The result is a beautiful and minimalist experience that leaves the listener at peace. Currently available for pre-order on digital and compact disc with one track available for listening.

Aum Taeppers - Oumbra

Release Date: July 30

An upcoming release through Subexotic Records, this debut album from Stutgart-based duo Aum Taeppers is a weird and playful album that effectively blends odd electronic soundscapes with live drums in an almost Krautrock style. Throughout the album, we get to hear everything from slightly upbeat and bouncy to downright moody and somewhat dour as Daniel Vujanic effectively sets the various scenes in each track and Niko Lazarakopoulos expertly keeps the rhythm section going with competent and tight drumming. The blending of electronic and rock influences is seamless and beautifully executed. Currently available for pre-order on digital and compact disc with five tracks available for listening.

Lleanto Boy - The Longing

Release Date: July 23

This upcoming album will mark Uruguayan electronic producer Lleanto Boy's eighth release and it is quite a trip. The tracks show a great deal of variance throughout with some leaning heavily into ambient territory while some of just full of seemingly random weirdness. Many of the stranger tracks on the album flirt with very odd rhythmic conventions that sometimes seem cinematic while using percussion that is more reminiscent of the bass-heavy club music that is recently popular. On top of all this, Lleanto Boy shows a penchant for utilizing the oddest of sounds and vocal samples that further add to the confusion felt throughout. Overall, the experience is quite puzzling and simultaneously enjoyable with pacing that feels much like a yo-yo. No pre-order is currently available but you can for Lleanto Boy on Bandcamp to be notified when it is released.

Various Artists - Brexshitting: A Portmanteau of Tautological Research

Release Date: July 31

This upcoming release from UK-based Difficult Art and Music is a collection of bizarre and intriguing sound art projects that are intended to be a sonic referendum on the political upheaval that was the Brexit campaign. The soundscapes contained within are mostly on the harsher side and expertly flow from rhythmic to ambient while heavily utilizing a number of recordings from the disingenuous leaders and politicians that pushed the campaign and the media coverage of it throughout. If you are familiar with the events, then this compilation will undoubtedly strike a chord with you. But if you are not, then it will provide a surprising amount of insight into the debacle. Currently available for pre-order on digital and cassette with four tracks available for listening.

Spacelab - Knell

Release Date: July 16

Centered mostly around dark textures and soundscapes, this forthcoming release from experimental ambient artist Spacelab on Hream Recordings is a creative experiment in channeling painful experiences. The tracks all seem to have a kind of "heaviness" about them as some tend more towards a somewhat mournful ambiance while others use some highly processed textures to create sounds that are percussive and harsher, but still absent of any rhythm. Whatever pain is being channeled here, it is impossible to ignore as the album pushes the listener through. Currently available for pre-order on digital and cassette with two tracks available for listening now.

The third release from North Carolina-based pineconesweetstones, this upcoming EP is a small collection of three short lo-fi compositions with an incredibly emotional vibe.
